Idan arrived in Israel without his parents, and was abducted according to estimates in the area surrounding Gaza. His mother Yael arrived in Israel exactly one week before the kidnapping and they had time to spend a few days together. When the alarms started, he called to reassure her, but later lost contact with him. His parents, Yael and Adi and the two younger brothers live in Tenfly, New Jersey and are waiting for his return.
